Joining Instructions

At our in-person Code Club, we’ll use Visual Studio Code (VS Code), a lightweight yet powerful IDE. It supports a wide range of programming languages and has a rich ecosystem of extensions. One of the key reasons we chose VS Code is its compatibility with Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). This allows developers on Windows to use a full Linux environment without dual-booting or managing virtual machines.
How to Install Visual Studio Code used for club sessions:
Follow the links below to install Visual Studio Code on your operating system:

Why Use WSL?
WSL enables a Linux-like development experience directly on Windows, which is perfect for those working with open-source tools or deploying to Linux-based servers. A lot of web development is done on Linux. By combining WSL with VS Code, you can:
  • Run Linux commands and scripts natively on Windows.
  • Use Linux development tools, compilers, and environments seamlessly.
  • Enjoy better performance and less overhead compared to traditional virtual machines.
  • Easily switch between Windows and Linux file systems while coding.
  • Make use of guides and documentation written assuming you are using Linux
This setup is ideal for web development, data science, and projects that require a Linux-based environment, making it a great tool for both beginners and experienced developers.

Join us at Code Cauldron to learn, network, and master coding with these powerful tools!
